The artist formerly known as Andre 3000 (at least until he started and acting career) has joined the cast of the Will Ferrell/Woody Harrelson basketball comedy Semi-Pro. It’s set in the world of 1970s basketball and details the exploits of a team in the old ABA.

Variety says Andre Benjamin is in negotiations to join the cast as one of the players on a Will Ferrell coached and owned team. Woody Harrelson is also supposed to be a player, presumably because he was in White Men Can’t Jump… but isn’t he getting a little old for that? Maybe someone can break Wesley Snipes out of prison for a cameo.

Pokes about his name aside, Andre actually has a nice little movie career going. He’s given good performances in all kinds of movies, even really bad ones. He was last seen in Idlewild and he does a voice in Charlotte’s Web. He’s also got a part in the star-studded message movie Battle for Seattle, currently in production.
