We've already seen a fair amount of Andrew Garfield in costume from The Amazing Spider-Man, starting with the first official image that Sony released when shooting had barely begun and going through a long series of set photos. But if you want a pristine, up-close and brightly lit shot, look no further than this week's cover of Entertainment Weekly, where they've got Garfield spruced up and staring you down like the reluctant superhero he is.



They actually have a set visit report, the bastards, and presumably will be including more images and information with the article. They say they're exclusively confirming that Rhys Ifans is playing Doctor Curt Connors, but since we've known all along that he was playing The Lizard and the two characters kind of go hand in hand, I'm not sure how much of a revelation that really is. They also have quotes promising that The Amazing Spider-Man will be-- say it with me now-- "more contemporary, more gritty, and more character-driven" than the previous three Spider-Man films. Given how little the idea of a dark Spider-Man appeals to me, I'm really hoping they're just saying that as a way to justify rebooting a franchise that ended just four years ago. Marc Webb at least has a quote that's slightly different from what we've been hearing already:

“Ultimately what this movie is about is a kid who grows up looking for his father and finds himself. And that’s a Spider-Man story we haven’t seen before.”

The Amazing Spider-Man will be pretty much the only high-profile upcoming superhero movie with a big Hall H panel at Comic Con this year, a big boon for Sony that they're clearly taking advantage of with this cover. This is likely only the beginning of new Spider-Man stuff we'll be seeing in the next week or so, so keep an eye out as we filter through it all and bring it back to you.
