Angela Bassett Added For McG's This Means War![]()
Angela Bassett, whose career has spanned froth like How Stella Got Her Groove Back and a lengthy stint on ER, seems to be getting into macho movies these days. She's already taken a role in The Green Lantern as Dr. Amanda Waller, and now Variety reports she'll also star in This Means War, the action comedy directed by McG with Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon starring.
Bassett, ever the authority figure, will play Pine and Hardy's boss, the head of their department within the CIA. Pine and Hardy play two spies who fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon) and start doing battle against each other rather than the actual enemy. It will be McG's first film since Terminator: Salvation, and it actually sounds like a promising return to action comedy for the Charlie's Angels director. Bassett doesn't have foolproof taste in scripts, so her participation doesn't mean anything necessarily, but she's at least always a welcome presence, especially in something this silly that could use her grounding presence. There's no set start date for the film, but with Pine in the Jack Ryan movie Moscow and Hardy set for Batman 3 next summer, there's a pretty brief window in which to get this going. It's starting to feel a bit like now or never, so hopefully McG can get all the pieces in place and get started on this thing. |
