Angelina Jole Prepping Afghanistan War Movie After In The Land Of Blood And Honey
Angelina Jolie could be trading one war movie for another. Now that her anticipated directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey -- an unlikely romance set against the Bosnian conflict – is ready to drop, Jolie went on 60 Minutes to discuss her movie, her location shooting, her private home life, and her upcoming projects. One, she mentioned, could have her directing again, this time tackling a war film involving Afghanistan. The clip is up on CBSNews.com, and available below.
The interview is revealing without being too spoilerish. Jolie admits that Blood and Honey, while a love story, does contain brutality. And the clips used throughout the 60 Minutes piece show extreme confidence and professionalism. I’m anxious to see Jolie’s finished work, knowing that the secret to Honey lies in its performances and editing. As for the rumored Afghanistan movie, it’s clear that capturing the hardships of international communities is a passion for Jolie, who serves as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. when she isn’t holding court on a movie set. We really won’t know just yet whether combat cinema is beyond her reach, and Honey will clarify that mystery, to a certain extent. But it doesn’t sound like Jolie wants her directing resume to contain much fluff, if she can help it. Jolie’s In the Land of Blood and Honey opens in limited release on Dec. 23, with aims of going wide in early 2012. |
