Anna Faris has made a career out of playing girls who are, how do I put this, a little slutty. She had a surprise hit playing a Playboy bunny in The House Bunny, was hilariously subversive as the local flirt in Observe and Report, and even in Brokeback Mountain she was the town tart. Now she'll have to pay for all that catting around in What's Your Number, a romantic comedy about a woman who freaks out after learning she's had 20 sexual partners, and decides to find true love with one of the former flames rather than sleep with number 21.

Chris Evans will be joining her in the New Regency comedy, according to Variety, presumably playing the womanizing next-door-neighbor who helps her set out to track down the ex-boyfriends. I'd ask you to guess the odds of this womanizer turning out to be The One, and the main character realizing her "number" doesn't matter so much as she finds true love, but I think you're smarter than that.

The movie is based on Karyn Bosnak's novel 20 Times A Lady, and while Bosnak originall adapted the screenplay, Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan have since taken a stab at it. Both writers have experience in television, writing for shows like Scrubs and The New Adventures of Old Christine, and with Number planned as an R-rated comedy, I'd expect something a little more subversive than your standard rom-com. That suits me just fine. Faris is at her best when allowed to cut loose, and would be wasted in a straightforward PG-13 comedy. As much as I hate the notion of a woman being ashamed of her sexual past, I'm intrigued to see where they go with this.
