I’ve been rooting for Anne Hathway to be cast in the new adaptation of Tipping the Velvet, but it looks like she’s opted to do a supernatural thriller instead.

The Hollywood Reporter says she’s starring in The Passengers, a film being done by Colombian director Rodrigo Garcia and written by Ronnie Christensen. In it, she’ll play a grief councilor who helps six plane crash survivors deal, while developing a special connection with one of them. In true Final Destination fashion, the survivors begin to disappear under mysterious circumstances and it’s up to her to uncover the truth.

Anne’s last movie, The Devil Wears Prada is currently getting serious awards consideration, though none of it seems to involve her specifically. She’s just filming a movie where she’ll play uber-fem author Jane Austen and she’s soon to begin production on a movie version of Get Smart with Steve Carell where she plays his love interest Agent 99.
