Given how many Elmore Leonard novels have been adapted into film, it feels like we should finally be out of content. But writer-director Charlie Matthau has found yet another, and is planning to adapt Leonard's 1988 novel Freaky Deaky into a feature film. The book is a little different from the usual gangsters-and-guns we expect from Leonard. The story is about a group of former 1960s radicals who find themselves getting into a new kind of trouble in 1970s L.A.
"I am the luckiest director in the world to be able to bring Elmore Leonard's favorite and finest novel to the screen," Matthau-- yes, the son of Walter-- told THR. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in January.
