With Charlie Bartlett opening today, star Anton Yelchin has been out and bout pimping the movie, and fielding questions from people who don’t give a shit about his current project and only want to ask him about Star Trek. Welcome to celebrity Ensign Chekov.

Luckily, Anton doesn’t seem to mind talking about what’s up with the Enterprise, and our friends over at MTV got him to talk in depth about what it was like on the Star Trek set. Like every serious actor, he refuses to admit that he’d ever even heard of Star Trek before reading the movie’s script, but of course now that he has he thinks it’s awesome, or something like it. He then drops a few hints about what we can expect from the movie when we see it, confirming things like Nimoy is the only original series castmember in the flick.

He also reveals who it is that Tyler Perry will be playing in the movie. Yelchin says, “Tyler Perry is in the Federation. He’s one of the Federation captain officials, of sorts. I can’t spoil what happens, but he’s an official in the Federation.”
