Mel Gibson’s latest venture, Apocalypto isn’t something we’ve been hearing much about. With the exception of the trailer containing a barrage of images (including zany Mel smoking a stogie) and the knowledge that it’s another non-English film from Gibson, not much information has been forthcoming. That’s about to change.
The first one-sheet poster for Apocalypto has been released, so the film now has an iconic image to go with it along with the tagline “No one can outrun their destiny.” The image is pretty daunting, although the fellow in the poster doesn’t appear to be trying to outrun anything.
I was impressed with what Gibson accomplished with The Passion of the Christ and I’ll be interested to see how Apocalypto fares. In many ways it looks similar, but it doesn’t exactly have the same built in audience. Hopefully more fans of Passion will be willing to see what else Gibson can offer outside of Christ’s life.
