Avatar And Star Trek Compete For Effects Oscar

Even though at this point, it seems all but certain Avatar will win it, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this morning that there are now officially seven eligible movies in the running for awards in their visual effects category. On January 21, members of the Academy’s visual effects branch will be invited to view 15-minute segments from each of these seven films and they’ll narrow the list down to three for final consideration. In the meantime, here’s the seven films still in the running:
