Avatar To Take Over IMAX![]()
Big things are expected from James Cameron’s first movie since Titanic. But how could things be any other way? The guy made Arnold Schwarzenegger governor of California, got a billion people to watch a movie that they all knew the ending too, and oh, on his free time, found Jesus’ bones. So one would have to assume that Avatar is going to be pretty awesome.
IMAX is one of the many entities putting faith in Avatar, as they recently announced that they plan to run the film on their screens for close to three months. The NY Times states: “IMAX so far has not lined up any other Hollywood movies for its ultra-big screen theaters between Fox’s release of Mr. Cameron’s 3-D science fiction thriller on Dec. 18 and the arrival of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland on March 5.” Now in some respects, this isn’t really all that big of a deal, considering that the biggest release hitting theatres in that time frame is The Tooth Fairy. But in all fairness, Star Trek, comparatively, only received the IMAX treatment for two weeks prior to getting kicked off Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian and Terminator Salvation. What makes this a big deal is that the week following the release of Avatar sees the release of Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation, The Princess and the Frog a sight that would surely be pure beauty on an IMAX screen. Unfortunately, it’s all a sight we’ll never get to see. |
