Avengers 2 Clip Has Iron Man Facing Off With Ultron

We saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes partying it up at Avengers Tower. We saw Black Widow subdue an enraged Hulk. We’ve seen the big Hulkbuster vs. Hulk showdown. But now it’s time for Ultron to face his father. Watch the villainous sentient robot battle Stark in a new Avengers 2 clip.

We knew there was a reason to watch that live stream of the Avengers 2 premiere. On Monday night, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and the rest of the Age of Ultron cast hit the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of the highly anticipated sequel. And the whole thing was streamed online for everyone’s enjoyment. While it was fun to see our favorite Marvel movie stars get all glammed up and chat about the film to press, the payoff came in the form of this new Avengers 2 clip.

In true Marvel style, we’re given enough trailers, TV spots, featurettes and whatnot to last us all the way through until the theatrical debut. But this is one of the better pieces so far. This latest Avengers 2 clip reveals Ultron to have a few extra powers we weren’t expecting. For one, he has some sort of magnetic pull, which doesn’t bode well for Iron Man. Not only is he able to manipulate his suit, Ultron can use this ability to hurl metal objects. Then there are the energy beams he can fire from his finger tips, and the super-strength that comes as a perk with his enhanced metallic form.

The big reveal in this clip, though, comes from Stark when he confirms Ultron’s plot to score some vibranium, the indestructible metal that comprises Cap’s shield. There’ve been clues scattered throughout the trailers pointing to this plot point, such as the trip to Africa, the tankers bound for Wakanda, and the appearance of Black Panther nemesis Ulysses Klaw (Andy Serkis). Ultron’s reasons for wanting the precious material are still unknown, and he’s not going to start monologuing about it, either.

Elsewhere, we see that Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) are standing by this psychotic robot at this point in the film, while Black Widow and Hawkeye attempt to sneak up on them. It’s difficult to do that when one of your targets can move objects with her mind and the other can move faster than a bullet. If you look at the setting, you’ll notice that this is probably the place where Scarlet Witch gets inside the Avengers’ heads. We’re assuming they’re all in Africa at this point, hence the vibranium talk, and we know that is where Stark is forced to whip out his Hulkbuster armor to subdue a magically brainwashed Hulk.

Long story short, the May 1 premiere of The Avengers: Age of Ultron can’t get here fast enough.
