With all the excitement over Marvel’s upcoming assortment of superhero solo movies it’s easy to forget about The Avengers the big movie at the end of the run which will, in a move thus far unprecedented in superhero cinema, bring all of their most famous characters together in one film. But it won’t just be those solo superhero movie characters joining The Avengers team. The Avengers is also likely to be the first place some of Marvel’s more minor characters get the spotlight. Characters like Hawkeye.

Hawkeye is kind of like Green Arrow or Bullseye or name any superhero character who’s powers are entirely based on his abilities as a marksman. He’s also a pivotal member of the Avengers team and he’ll show up at some point in The Avengers. When he does, Empire says he may be wearing Hawkeye’s purple pants.

Renner, star of The Hurt Locker and likely to get some serious Oscar buzz this fall, seems like a natural fit. He says, “I met with the Marvel guys, actually, but we didn’t talk about Captain America. But one of the writers, Zak Penn, we’ve become friends over time and he was thinking maybe Hawkeye could be interesting. He sounds like an interesting character.”

There’s always a chance he could show up sooner than The Avengers. Maybe he’ll get a cameo in Thor or Captain America. But count on seeing Hawkeye in The Avengers and when you do, hope he’ll be played by Renner.
