The Avengers Sets Another Record With $104 Million Second Weekend

The rumors are true-- The Avengers, once again, has set a record for just how big a movie can be. Not only has it become the first movie to ever make $100 million in its second weekend, but it blew right past that mark, making an estimated $104 million this weekend. According to Deadline it had a huge Saturday, with an estimated $44.5 million added to Friday's take of $29.1 million. And keep in mind, that $104 million total is just another estimate-- last weekend we were all excitedly reporting that The Avengers had made $200 million before the final Sunday numbers came in and the actual grand total was $207 million. So that $104 million number is huge, and only has the potential to get bigger.

In the meantime, as you might expect, Dark Shadows suffered with The Avengers sucking up all the attention. Weekend estimates have it making $28.5 million, a fraction of what Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, his previous film, made in its opening.

We'll have a full box office report for you later today, and on Monday we'll finally have official numbers and another reason to get all excited about The Avengers again. In the meantime, if you need your superhero fix, we've got plenty-- how about a scheme to get Joss Whedon and Scarlett Johansson to make a Wonder Woman movie? Or some pointed suggestions about Avengers heroes we'd want to see in the sequel? Of course, if you want to relive the magic, you can always just visit Eric's rave review. Yes, we're still excited about The Avengers, and with not many movies on the horizon that look as interesting for the next few weeks, we'll continue to talk about it as long as you'll let us.
