Sure, this weekend marks the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, America's birthday, all that. But there's a much more important anniversary to be remembering here. Twenty-five years ago this weekend, Deloreans and flux capacitors and the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance first came into our lives. Twenty-five years ago Back to the Future was released in theaters, and really, can you imagine the world without it?

Back to the Future is without a doubt my favorite movie of all time, and I'm dying for the day when someone re-releases it into theaters so I can finally see it on the big screen (I had just turned a year old when the movie was first released, so I missed out on the first go-round). Even if you didn't spend your childhood with a crush on Marty McFly and wishing desperately for a hoverboard, you can recognize that Back to the Future is one of the best-written and constructed movies of all time, and fail-safe entertainment any time it comes on TV. Yes it bears unmistakable marks of the 80s-- the skateboard! the Tab jokes!-- but it also feels remarkably fresh on every viewing.
