Bandslam Director Graff Hired For Damn Yankees Movie![]()
It was nearly a year ago that we reported about Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal teaming up in a movie adaptation of the stage musical Damn Yankees, a decision that still seems puzzling. But progress has finally been made on making this bizarre idea a reality-- Deadline Hollywood reports that Todd Graff has been selected to direct the film.
Graff who? You'll be forgiven for not knowing about the director of Bandslam, a movie that was apparently better than it looked, or the comedy musical Camp, which was the screen debut of recent Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick. Graff has been working his way up slowly with music-themed movies that don't get their due, but it's a big leap up to the screen adaptation of a well-loved musical, especially immediately following Nine's flop. Then again, Adam Shankman was just some former choreographer who directed Bringin' Down The House, and he made the ebullient and wonderful Hairspray. Hiring an unknown director is always a gamble; Graff is just a slightly more mysterious one. |
