Barry Levinson, whose feature filmmaking has been in something of a rut since 1997's Wag the Dog, turned to TV last year for You Don't Know Jack and turned out a hit. The movie about the infamous Dr. Jack Kevorkian won two Emmys and was nominated for a ton more, and proved that whatever happened to Levinson's directing career at the movies over the last decade, he still had serious skills. Now he's heading back to the big screen, and again with a true life story based in the 90s.

According to Variety, Levinson will be directing O.K.C., a political thriller based on the true story of a member of Timothy McVeigh's defense team trying to expose a larger conspiracy. McVeigh, of course, was convicted of causing the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and was considered part of a larger nationwide right-wing militia movement; he believed his bombing of the building was a justified response to the siege at Waco, Texas. It's unclear exactly what conspiracy will be at the center of O.K.C., but given what many believe to be another rise of a right-wing militia movement, it could be very, very topical.

Clay Wold wrote the script based on his own brother's experience. It's unclear when production is set to start, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the film in theaters at some point in the next year. Hopefully Levinson can take all the skill he brought to HBO and make his first good theatrical feature in over a decade.
