The Batmobile is the holy grail of cars. It’s a Torah on wheels, a fast moving and tricked out automotive Bible. It’s every bit as sacred as George Washington, and frankly, it makes KITT from ‘Knight Rider’ look like a little bitch. Sadly, all great things (like the Whig party and Mountain Dew Live Wire) eventually come to an end, and it appears Batman’s car will join the Hindenburg in fiery immortality.
Freeze Dried Movies is reporting that some time next week Caped Crusader executives will blow up the superhero wagon. This is more than a little bit ironic considering the recent fire that broke out on their Chicago set. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it’s unclear whether the production will now lag a few days on The Dark Knight.
I have to be honest, I’m a little perturbed at the idea of exposing an apparent weakness in the Batmobile. After all, I still have Knightmares about the implosion of that evil juggernaut, The Death Star. Here’s to hoping it goes out with a little more dignity than Denis Nedry.

Actually this makes sense... back when they were filming the first movie, they talked about the evolution of the Batmobile, how the Tumbler was the "military" vehicle he adopted, but I think the intention all along was to move on to the more traditional style Batmobile. It never made a lot of sense for him to become Batman then to all of a sudden build all the Batmobile from scratch... logically it had to start somewhere... so bye-bye Tumbler, hello rocket powered gloriousness... just as long as they stay away from the Schumacher neon-mobile.
