I always love it when television actors start working their way into film projects. Even though it can pull me out of a movie’s story, it’s always entertaining to recognize an actor who has toiled away on television, at least the first few times it happens. When they move to the Steve Carell level it’s no longer quite as entertaining, but those first few bit parts can be fun to spot.
Soon that quick spark of recognition will be happening for one of my favorite science fiction actors: Aaron Douglas. You might not recognize the actor’s name immediately, but his face is pretty recognizable as Chief Petty Officer Galen Tyrol on Battlestar Galactica. He’s been one of my favorite parts of the show since the beginning, and always puts in some awesome performances. Considering recent developments on the series, I’m curious to see where he goes next.
Moviehole reports that Douglas will be putting in a little bit of screen time in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, as one of the soldiers who faces off with spaceman Klaatu’s ship when it first lands on Earth. That doesn’t exactly sound like a meaty part, but it’s consistent with Douglas’s previous work as a Stryker soldier in X2 and a casino stickman in Walking Tall. Besides, hopefully it can knock his detective role in Catwoman off his resume.
