So we all assumed, when Hugh Jackman was chosen as the host for this year's Oscars, that song and dance numbers would be part of the package. Jackman is an appealing guy when he's sitting down, of course, but his singing and dancing talents are a huge draw, and pretty much the only leg-up he has on the previous stand-up comic hosts.
But Fox 411 is floating the rumor that Jackman is getting his Australia director Baz Luhrmann, along with wife Catherine Martin, involved in choreographing and producing the big opening musical number. That pretty much guarantees the thing will be cranked up to 11, given the breakneck choreography of Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! numbers and Martin's career as a splashy costume designer for Luhrmann's movies (she's up for an Oscar at the ceremony, actually, for Australia's duds).
If you doubt that you want to see Hugh Jackman doing high kicks, check out this clip from the 2004 Tonys, where Jackman was nominated for his role as flamboyant Australian musician Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz. Even the bitter Dark Knight fanboys will enjoy this.
