Thanks to a brand new behind the scenes featurette for A Christmas Carol, I now know that Jim Carrey voices not only the character of Scrooge but also all three ghosts visiting him. Until now there really seemed to be no good reason to do this with animation instead of live action, but ok, there’s one. It’s weirdly appropriate that the ghosts and Scrooge should be played by the same person since, in a sense, the ghosts are just an extension of him. And better to animate them than see Jim Carrey stuck in some sort of awful, Eddie Murphy-style fat suit rig pretending that we don’t notice he’s made of latex.
