After hearing about Owen Wilson's sad situation this morning, I seriously considered simply not running this. It just seemed wrong to start spamming for his next movie while the guy is still stuck in a hospital and I'm sure it's merely a coincidence that Fox Searchlight sent out clips advertising The Darjeeling Limited when they did. For those of you who may not have heard, Owen Wilson is currently hospitalized and the unhappy, yet increasingly likely to be true rumors circulating around his condition seem to indicate that he's there because of a failed suicide attempt.
Hearing something like this from Owen is just shocking. He's the last guy you'd expect to be suffering from this sort of deep depression. He has always seemed so upbeat and on top of the world, it's hard to imagine what might have brought a great guy like him to this. Whatever it is, I think just about everyone hopes the best for him. Owen has made a few clunkers, but even at his worst he's an incredibly lovable actor and in person, I've never heard anything but praise for just how cool the guy is. He's the Butterscotch Stallion dammit, get the help you need Owen and get well soon. We love you.
So though it seems a little weird to think about Owen's next movie at a time like this, what better way is there to show the guy how absolutely beloved he is than by celebrating just how awesome his next movie with Wes Anderson looks. Owen and Wes have been longtime collaborators; together they've been responsible for gems like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Live Aquatic with Steve Zissou. The Darjeeling Limited looks like another work of genius from them, and to prove it Fox Searchlight has released a group of behind the scenes videos from the Darjeeling set.
Each video comes with a short introduction, straight from the movie's director Wes Anderson. Read what he has to say, watch the videos, and enjoy reveling in Owen Wilson's greatness.
Behind The Darjeeling Limited - On the Motorcycle
Wes: “In India, motorcycles always carry at least three passengers on any given
ride, and often an entire family. Our favorite brand is called the Hero
Honda.”
Behind The Darjeeling Limited - The Caboose
Wes: "There are no longer cabooses on passenger trains in India (or anywhere
else for that matter?), so our production designer Mark Friedberg built one.
We shot these scenes near our workshop in Jodphur."
Behind The Darjeeling Limited - 1000 Bulls
Wes: "We started our shoot in the middle of one of the busiest and least
accessible (by anything other than bicycle or auto-rickshaw) parts of
Jodphur. Luckily, our key grip Sanjay Sami introduced us to his "rickshaw
dolly" which became our favorite piece of equipment."
Behind The Darjeeling Limited - The Lost Train
Wes: "You are never alone in India. Even in the middle of the most remote desert,
if you take a careful look, you will find that there are people and animals
around you somewhere. This scene was shot on top of a high dune near a
village called Osian."
