Though Ben Affleck's feature directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, got a lot of deserved critical praise last fall, one of the low points was the way the movie dealt with the relationship between the main character (played by Casey Affleck) and his girlfriend, played by Michelle Monaghan, Though she originally seemed like she would play a major role in the movie's plot, the character became little more than the stock girlfriend figure by the end.
Hopefully Affleck will be able to address that problem with his next project, The Town, given that the entire story is about a love triangle. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Affleck is looking to both direct and star in the movie, based on the novel Prince of Thieves by Chuck Hogan. No word on whether Affleck will be playing the longtime thief or the FBI agent, both of whom are involved with a female bank manager.
