Ben Affleck In Talks For Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby
The last we heard about Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby, it sounded like the project has slowed down considerably. Set with a principal cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, the Australian director said that he has delayed the production due to speculation and misinformation. It makes me wonder how this story is cropping up.
Deadline is reporting that Ben Affleck has entered talks to join the cast of The Great Gatsby. According to the story, should Affleck sign on he will play Tom Buchanan, the husband of Carey Mulligan's Daisy Buchanan, a Long Island millionaire, and white supremacist. As previously reported, the actor-turned-director is currently prepping a project called Argo, a film about the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis.
While I am completely sold on Ben Affleck the director - Gone Baby Gone and The Town were just that good - I am still waiting to be 100% convinced by Affleck's acting skills again. That said, they could have gotten someone a lot worse to play Tom Buchanan.
