There are times when Ben Stiller seems to own comedy. It’s an odd notion considering the guy’s made some pretty mediocre films (Envy, The Heartbreak Kid). But often enough, he releases something that hits all of the right notes and makes you realize just how talented he truly his (Tropic Thunder, Mystery Men). The dude’s got a grasp on absurdist satire.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to see the video that Movieline has gotten hold of. It’s an exclusive and likely never supposed to be seen video that has Stiller tearing 20th Century Fox a new one, as well as himself. In the video, Stiller takes shots at Fox’s executives, their rich and artistic library of movies (EXPLOSION! EXPLOSION! WAVE!), but gives Slumdog Millionaire a pass.
The video was likely made for employees at his production company Red Hour as well as a way to give the people at Fox, who purchased that company, something to laugh about. And while the shots at Fox are great, I think the best part of the whole thing is how real they made the cheap production values look. Stiller could totally be part of the next Grindhouse movie, and I wouldn’t be against it at all.
