When the Jim Carrey- Ben Stiller comedy Used Guys was canceled in 2006, it was because of budget concerns, given that the movie was set in a future in which Carrey and Stiller would be pleasure clones. But now Fox is ready to take the project on again, and somehow making the movie more of a romantic comedy is going to keep the budget in check.
Yeah, I don't understand it either. But according to Variety, Stiller is back on board, with Little Miss Sunshine directors Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton in it to helm and Reese Witherspoon apparently in mind for a lead female role. There's no mention of Carrey in the article, so either they saw Yes Man and wanted no part of what Carrey was offering, or his deal is still in the works.
The idea sounds weird if fairly interesting, and Faris and Dayton have a way with comedic tone that could make this different from what you might expect from a Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey match. Don't go getting your hopes up, though, because who knows when the plug might get pulled again.
