A few weeks ago we told you that there were two indie directors in the running to replace Steven Soderbergh on Moneyball, the adaptation of Michael Lewis's bestseller that fell apart last summer when Soderbergh apparently wanted to make it too weird. Both Capote's Bennett Miller and (500) Days of Summer's Marc Webb were in the running, but now Miller has won out.

Variety is reporting that Miller will now direct, with Brad Pitt still starring as Oakland A's manager Billy Beane, who built a winning team with the help of some statistics and a lot of underdogs. Given that production was practically ready to go when Soderbergh bailed, this project could be underway any day now. Now we'll start seeing if any of the other cast that Soderbergh had attached-- including Demetri Martin-- will be on board as well.
