According to Zap2It, she is set to star in Dreamwork's upcoming musical Dreamgirls, based on a hit Broadway play from the early 1980's. The play won the 1982 Grammy for best cast show album, and featured music by Henry Krieger. The story, allegedly about Diana Ross and The Supremes, details the rags-to-riches journey of three friends from Chicago to worldwide fame. While creating beautiful songs like "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "When I First Saw You", their endless petty catfights ultimately hindered their chances for longevity.
Dreamgirls is written and directed by Bill Condon, the Oscar-winning scribe of Gods and Monsters. He also wrote Kinsey and Chicago, which should help him in adapting another musical successfully. Production is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles during the fall season. Beyonce Knowles will play the Diana Ross role, and the other parts have yet to be cast. Does Foxxy Cleopatra have what it takes to carry a film?
People tend to either love or hate musicals, and I fall into the first category. I can partially blame this guilty pleasure on my two X Chromosomes.
