It's not all that often that casting news constitutes spoilers for a movie, but Bill Murray seems to be making an art of it lately. After surprising everyone with his cameo in Zombieland last year, Murray's former Ghostbusters castmates have been dropping hints about the nature of Murray's role in the planned Ghostbusters 3-- hints that probably do constitute spoilers, even if we will know Peter Venkman's fate early on in the new film.

And now Murray himself is chiming in to infuriate purists everywhere.

SPOILER ALERT FOR A MOVIE THAT HAS NOT EVEN BEGUN FILMING YET.

"I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film," Murray told British newspaper Mail on Sunday. That's the first time Murray has even confirmed that he'll be in the movie, much less as a ghost, which means it's likely things will be moving ahead on the project very, very soon.

And as for having Venkman as a ghost? Pretty much the only way it'd be possible, I think. Murray's sardonic, I'm-too-old-for-this-shit presence would only dampen the spirits of a new Ghostbusters, especially since he clearly doesn't think the movie should exist at all. Kill off Venkman in the first reel, let him pop up as a ghost once in a while, and you can pay homage to the past while moving on without the crankiest former Ghostbuster weighing you down. I love Murray and all, but this really seems like the best way to go.
