Billy Crudup is an amazing actor. I know this because I almost never notice him. He blends into whatever movie he’s in to the point that he’s almost completely unrecognizable as “hey isn’t that the guy from Almost Famous?” He’s good, but is he good enough to wear women’s underwear? We’re about to find out. Variety says he’s playing J. Edgar Hoover.

The movie is the already star-packed Public Enemies, Michael Mann’s old fashioned gangsters versus cops crime drama. Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, and Johnny Depp as John Dillinger are already on board. Now they’ve got Billy Crudup as J. Edgar Hoover, the notorious longtime FBI director and secret wearer of lace garters. It’s unlikely we’ll see Crudup in a bra in this movie, but when he’s running down the street chasing bad guys in a suit, it’ll be fun to picture the t-back his character might have been wearing underneath.

Before you see him running the FBI, you’ll see Bill Crudup in one of the most heavily anticipated movies of the millennium. He’s playing Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, and since he’ll be painted blue there’s a good chance that as usual, nobody will notice it’s him.
