That’s right kiddos! Hawaii is the new home for Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship, the Black Pearl, from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series. Why you ask? Well according to your Disney detectives over at Chip and Co., the ship sailed to our disembodied 50th state to prepare for shooting scheduled to take place there this summer.

The puzzle pieces are starting to fit together nicely for the forthcoming follow-up to the Pirates trilogy; Johnny Depp is on board, Penelope Cruz may be joining, Rob Marshall hassettled in as director, Geoffrey Rush cleared his slate to make extra sure he’d have the time, and now the staple of the series is docked on location, ready for the lenses. While shooting isn’t supposed to kick off until this summer, having the Pearl there this early will, fingers crossed, boost the state’s tourism, bringing in some extra money in this rough economy.

No specific start date was mentioned, but they won’t run out of summer any time soon in Hawaii so it seems there would be no huge rush. We’ll keep an eye out for any more details as they roll out. Here’s the original news clip that broke the story.
