Blomkamp Not Directing The Hobbit, Brett Ratner Is Closer Than Ever
A few days ago we heard here that Neill Blomkamp had been hired to direct The Hobbit, and that sounded good. This movie has all the makings of a pre-production disaster and the sooner they hand that job out to someone good, like Blomkamp, the less chance there is they’ll ruin it by hiring a Brett Ratner. It may have sounded good, but it was too good to be true.
Vulture says Blomkamp was never offered the job. Does that mean he’s doing his much lusted after District 9 sequel instead? Nope, he’s not doing that either. Instead he’s doing a sci-fi film based on an original script he wrote, called Elysium. Details are sparse, all we know is that it’s set on another planet.
So that leaved The Hobbit still in a tail spin. This should be the biggest dream job in Hollywood, directing the next installment in one of the most successful, beloved, and awarded franchises of all time. So why doesn’t anyone want it? Guillermo del Toro quit. Peter Jackson refuses to do it, even though he’s producing it and everyone involved wants him to handle it. No one even bothered to ask Blomkamp, though he seems like a natural fit. We’re running out of names and time here. That dark shadow that just fell over your shoulder is named Brett Ratner, and he’s closer than ever.
