Bloody Fun In Cannibal Comedy Fresh Meat's Trailer

Fresh Meat, a ghoulish comedy out of New Zealand, begins with a band of criminals seeking cover from the cops after breaking out of jail. Their getaway car tears into the garage of what seems to be a typical middle class home, where this gang aims to take the Maori family who lives there hostage. But the hunters become the hunted when these crooks uncover this family's got more than skeletons in their closet. Celebrated kiwi actor Temuera Morrison (Once Were Warriors) stars as Hemi Crane, husband, father, and merciless cannibal.

As you can see from the trailer above, this horror-comedy has got some slick swagger and a bonkers brand of humor. But beyond the midnight movie-styled mayhem, there seems to be a subversive satirical element at play. Think about it, a bunch of strangers come crashing into someone's home, threatening to take it over? But instead of having their members slaughtered or subject to the whims of these would-be imperialists, the house's natives rebel by devouring these gun-toting invaders! Whether or not your interested in New Zealand social politics, Fresh Meat seems to offer plenty of bloody fun besides.

Fresh Meat will play at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month as part of the fest's Midnight Movies program. But you can see it ahead of its New York Premiere as it hits VOD on April 16th.

Look for our coverage of the Tribeca Film Festival starting next week. In the meantime, check out trailer for some of the fest's other featured titles, including the biopic Greetings from Jeff Buckley, the Sam Rockwell thriller A Single Shot, and another movie from the Midnight selection, Raze.
