Martin Campbell is probably feeling pretty good, after several critics-- including our ever-cranky Josh Tyler-- have complained that Quantum of Solace isn't nearly as good as the Campbell-directed Casino Royale. Now Campbell will be taking that confidence into another action film, Nagasaki Deadline, which he's just signed on to direct for Alcon Entertainment.
Variety's article isn't revealing much about the plot, except to say that it revolves around "an emotionally damaged FBI agent who must decipher historic events in a desperate race to avert a terrorist plot." I guess the Da Vinci Code/National Treasure comparisons begin here, but hopefully Campbell will be able to bring a little of that Bond panache to the same old story. The movie has actually been in develop since before 9/11, so maybe it has some original ideas that it's been clinging to for the last 8 years.
