Bond Writers Working On Bond-like Thriller Set In The Sahara![]()
Bond series rebooters, writers Neil Purvis and Robert Wade, have started working on their next thriller set in the gritty, sandy world of the Sahara, according to Deadline. The pair reinvented the Bond series penning Casino Royale followed by Quantum of Solace, and though they weren’t hired back for the now dead-ish Bond 23, they aren’t straying too far from their action comfort zone.
The project isn’t titled just yet but will take place on the Uranium-rich lands of the West African Sahara, looking to be mined by both energy companies and terrorists. The nomadic Taureg tribe roams these lands and, as it sounds, the tribe and one “fascinating man” will have to stop them. ”We're always looking for interesting character-based movies and this one has a fascinating man at the centre of it,” Purvis tells Deadline. “The fact that it takes place in a magical, forgotten part of the world and we get to work with great producers is of course a bonus.” If you twist that enough, it almost sounds like a Bond flick. Powerful tycoon, foreign lands, unlikely hero. The formula has certainly worked so there’s really no reason for them to give up on it now. The film is being produced by Michael Lieber, who spent 9 years as a cultural anthropologist before jumping into the film world. This will be a nice advantage for the film as someone who has a background studying cultures will be helpful in building a realistic world for the film. No release date is set. |
