Boyle Gives Away More Millions![]()
As a director, Danny Boyle is hit or miss. Trainspotting, hit. The Beach, miss. 28 Days Later, hit. And us Americans will find out if Sunshine continues or refutes the pattern sometime later this year. In the meantime, Boyle is already working on his latest film, Slum Dog Millionaire. The film follows the supposed true story of a boy from a Mumbai slum who hits the jackpot on a game show. He’s no child prodigy; he’s actually an uneducated illiterate, says Cinematical.
Given the child’s lack of education, the game show’s producers suspect foul play. Boyle explains: “What's clever about the film is that the structure shows you how he knows the answers. Certain things have happened to him in his life and they happen to ask questions about those things,” Boyle told the Time Out. “But the real reason he's on the show is to get in touch with the girl he loves but has lost in the chaos of Mumbai, and all he knows is that she watches the show religiously. So he's not even there to win the money, but that's when you win I suppose, when you're not even trying.” Sounds like another feel-good, family-friendly film, a la Millions. Simon Beaufoy, of The Fully Monty fame has written the script, with filming set to start on location in Mumbai soon. Let’s hope for another hit. |
