When I think of Clive Owen, I think of him shoving a carrot in someone’s eye. Maybe you think of him driving fast cars or wearing a tuxedo. You probably don’t think of him playing a lovable single father in a heartfelt drama, but that’s exactly what he’s doing in The Boys are Back. Because he’s Clive Owen, he makes the whole thing slightly cooler than the usual dad raising kids alone movie. For instance he lets his kids engage in patently unsafe activities like zip lining from tall trees. Still, it’s hard to watch the first trailer for The Boys are Back not to think that he’s basically doing Australian Jersey Girl.
