Branagh Connects Thor To Kevin Bacon

Branagh Connects Thor To Kevin Bacon I still can’t get my head around the idea of Kenneth Branagh directing a Marvel Comics movie. How is it the guy who revolutionized Shakespeare adaptations is going to take on the Norse God of Thunder, Thor? Regardless of how odd it seems, not only is Branagh taking on the Thor movie, but he’s apparently taking it pretty seriously.

MTV’s Splash Page talked with Marvel’s Editor in Chief, Joe Quesada, who told them that Branagh is not only trying to understand his own movie’s characters, but how those characters co-exist with the other stories being told from the Marvel Universe. “There’s continuity within the movies and he really wanted to play within that and wanted it to be part of the other movies.”

Apparently, Branagh isn’t just looking at Thor, but also at how the character will relate to characters from some of the other movies, like the upcoming Iron Man 2 or Captain America. The way these characters interact and exist in the same universe is something Branagh finds pretty appealing.

That’s a good sign for Marvel, since they are hoping to make Thor one of the movies that builds toward a combined Avengers picture. With the director knowing how his picture leads into that one, through references to other pictures or cameos by other characters (like Tony Stark or Nick Fury), Marvel will be in a good place for that interconnectivity.

I still don’t get why Branagh would want to handle a comic book movie, but it sounds like he does get how important it is that his movie fit into other ones. Is it possible he’ll get some casting done in time for Iron Man 2 to get a Thor cameo or reference? With all the rumors that are being tossed about, it seems like some solid news might not be too far behind.
