Brazilian Actor Wagner Moura To Play The Villain In Neill Blomkamp's Elysium![]()
This past January, one of the biggest hits of the Sundance Film Festival was a movie called Elite Squad 2. A Brazilian action film from director José Padilha, the film has already staked it's claim as one of the most popular films ever in Brazil, and is it's already paying off for the talent in Hollywood. Padilha is now likely going to be the man behind the camera for the Robocop reboot and star Wagner Moura just landed a role in a film with one of the industry's most promising directors.
Latino Review has learned from an unnamed source that Moura has landed a spot along side Sharlto Copley and Matt Damon in Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to District 9, Elysium. While details about the project are still quite slim - the only things we know about it is that it will be set 100 years in the future, contain a social allegory and will be rated R - part of the scoop says that Moura will play the film's villain. Jodie Foster has also previously been rumored for a role, but as of last month she was not officially attached (according to Empire). I personally haven't seen either Elite Squad movie yet, so I can't really speak to Moura's talent level personally. That said, Blomkamp discovered a diamond when he hired Copley to make his debut in District 9, so one can assume that the director has an eye for talent. |
