Broadcast Film Critics Go For Basterds And Nine![]()
The Broadcast FIlm Critics Association has jumped into the scrum of end-of-the-year critic's awards, showering Inglourious Basterds and Nine with the most nominations, 10 apiece. The group, which will had out the prizes during the Critics Choice Awards on January 15, didn't have too many surprises to offer up with its six nominations in every category (except 10 for Best Picture). Emily Blunt snagged a Best Actress nod for The Young Victoria (over The Last Station's Helen Mirren), Marion Cotillard was placed in Supporting Actress for Nine despite a lead campaign, Rob Marshall was left out of the directing category despite Nine's big tally, but beyond that, it was pretty much what you would expect based on the awards season buzz so far.
At Awards Daily this morning Sasha Stone noted that the BFCA's Best Picture nominees usually resemble the Academy's choices fairly closely, which means that leaving room for spoilers like A Single Man or The Road or even that feared The Blind Side, what we see may be what we're getting. Below is the list of the BFCA's major nominees (from Awards Daily); they do a ton of technical nominees and awards like Best Comedy (finally, a nomination for Zombieland!), so you're better off surfing over there for the full list.
