Getting tired of James Bond news? Yeah, me too. Unfortunately I can't pass up the chance to report a producer calling a popular Scottish actor too short. Our resident Ewan McGregor worshipper Matt Norris may not want to read the rest of this.

Martin Campbell, who has been charged to start filming by January for an October release (lofty aspirations if you ask me given that the script is currently being rewritten), isn't the only one who has a say in the casting. Producers and half-sibligs Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are the cinematic "geniuses" (read idiots) who "released" (read fired) Pierce Brosnan from his duties, have had a few choice things to say as well. The director has his mind about the concept though. "Campbell wants to find a complete unknown," one source said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "He wants to take credit for re-energizing the franchise again.". He pulled it off once when cast Brosnan while directing GoldenEye. Maybe lightning can strike twice.

According to a Hollywood reporter source, the Brocolli/Wilson team had the following things to say about potential Bond candidates. Interestingly enough, most of these folks have said they're not interested. Who said what first is hard to say, but if I wanted to play Bond but were then said to be too short, I might change my tune as well.

ACTOR AGE BEST KNOWN FOR WHAT THE PRODUCERS THOUGHT
Pierce Brosnan
52
Reigning Bond Reportedly wanted $30 million dollars and the siblings didn't want to cough up.
Daniel Craig
37
"Layer Cake" Wilson didn't like him. That's it.
Hugh Jackman
36
"X-men" Broccoli thought he wasn't masculine enough (Apparently only saw him in Kate and Leopold, not X-men).
Colin Farrell
29
"Alexander" Too much of a bad boy.
Eric Bana
37
"Troy" Not good looking enough.
Ewan McGregor
34
"Star Wars" Too Short. (no, I'm not kidding)

Hollywood Reporter also suggests that Clive Owen has been offered the role since Campbell took over. Owen worked with Campbell in Beyond Borders but expressed no interest in the playing Bond. To add insult to injury, Clive plays Agent 006 in the forth coming comedy remake The Pink Panther.

In this day and age of the internet, everyone seems to have a say in who they want for Bond. Recognizing people's right to suggest anything no matter how dumb, the Hollywood Reporter compiled the following list of other pop favorites to fill 007's shoes. All I have to say is, how the heck did Hugh Grant get on that list? "The name's...er, well....Bond. That is to say....um, James....uh....Bond. Yes"

Jude Law ("Every other movie in 2004"), 32
Gerard Butler ("The Phantom of the Opera"), 35
Hugh Grant ("Bridget Jones's Diary"), 44
Ralph Fiennes ("The Constant Gardener"), 42
Rufus Sewell ("The Legend of Zorro"), 37
