Brokeback crashes PGA competition![]()
First we bring you the nominees, then we bring you the winners…
The Producer’s Guild of America announced their winners last night, starting the real Oscar buzz around Brokeback Mountain which took the Motion Picture award of the evening. The PGA awards are a well-known predictor for the Oscars, with real Oscar contenders typically being nominated by both the PGA and the Writer’s Guild of America. By taking the top honors at the PGA’s ceremony, Brokeback Mountain has strengthened its bid to take home the golden bald statue next month over other films like Crash, which appears to be Brokeback’s main competition right now. The PGA awards also saw the first ever award for an animated film in a new category. The award went to Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit which beat out Corpse Bride, Robots, Madagascar, and Disney’s Chicken Little to claim the award for the first time. On the television side HBO was the big winner in an evening full of few surprises. The Life and Death of Peter Sellers took the award for Television: Long Form, while the hilarious Hollywood crew of “Entourage” beat out Bluths, Housewives, and “Scrubs” for the Comedy award. The Drama award was “LOST” to Jack Bauer and William Shatner’s legal drama.
