Could Pierce Brosnan soon be back playing Bond? The guys over at MovieHole think so. They’re reporting a really wild rumor that Sony is considering re-remaking Thunderball, and that Brosnan is in consideration to play the Bond role.
Wait a minute though, why wouldn’t they use Daniel Craig, the new James Bond and star of the upcoming movie Casino Royale? Well remember, it’s almost as if they’ve started a completely new James Bond franchise with Casino. The movie is a complete reboot of the character and the series, starting over with James Bond’s first spying mission. It’s not entirely crazy for Sony to consider the possibility of two simultaneously running Bond franchises. One, that continues the adventures of Craig’s young bond, and another that continues the adventures of Pierce Brosnan’s older, more seasoned 007.
It’s not entirely crazy… but it also seems pretty unlikely. There’s barely enough interest left in the character to support one franchise, let alone two. It’s a pretty wild rumor. Even if Thunderball is remade, Brosnan is just one of several actors (including Dougray Scott and Joel Egerton) being considered for the part according to MH. Brosnan seems settled in to life without a license to kill. Don’t expect to see him returning to it any time soon.

Tom Sutherland is right. One thing he neglects to mention, however, is that Sony would be incredibly stupid to try to recreate Thunderball, as they did with Never Say Never Again, seeing as the 1983 starred Sean Connery in what was dubbed "The Battle Of The Bonds" - pitting then present Bond, Roger Moore, against the popular fave, Sean Connery.
Thing is - Roger Moore's film, Octopussy, wiped the floor with Connery's denture-chattering Never Say Never Again. The same will happen again.
Thunderball was written by 2 people, and Kevin Mclory won the rights to the Thunderball script, therefore he can remake the film as many times as he likes. He has already done it once with Never Say Never Again, and he tried in 2000 with a title of Warhead 2000, where he tried to get Timothy Dalton to star as Bond. So the rumour about trying to remake Thunderball is probably very true, the rumour about trying to get Brosnan to star in it is very true - but I doubt very much that Sony will sign up to produce/fund etc and i would not be classed as an official bond movie, without the theme tune and logo, just like never say never again.
