Bruce Lee’s family isn’t happy with the way we all think of him, so to set perished action star’s fans straight they’re planning a movie and book based on what they perceive as the truth about his life. Now think of your family, and ask yourself if they really know the truth about you. Do they know about the porn stash hidden in the shoebox under your bed? Probably not.

There’s nothing worse than a biopic being pushed by bereaved family members intent on portraying what they believe to be the truth of their loved one’s life, when in fact it’s usually an idealized version that bears only a passing resemblance to the facts. For instance Bruce’s sisters probably don’t know about his subscription to Black Tail. We all have our secrets.

Regardless, his brother Robert Lee has been appointed by his family to “clarify” Bruce Lee’s legend, according to a statement released by Robert through the Bruce Lee Club. The movie will be planned and produced by the family, and they plan to start auditioning actors to play the martial arts superstar soon.

Robert says he’s been collecting information on his brother for over 10 years. I’m not sure what it means when your brother obsesses over you like some sort of crazed fan, but then my brother hasn’t made me filthy rich so I have no frame of reference. Maybe that kind of attention to detail is warranted when your dead bro makes you a wealthy man. It might be more healthy though, to simply get over it.

Robert Lee is currently editing a book on Bruce’s life, using the 10 years worth of facts he’s collected. The book is scheduled for release on November 27th to coincide with the anniversary of Bruce Lee’s birth. Then he’ll move on to going full steam ahead with the movie, in conjunction with J.A. Media, a company planning a whole series of films, documentaries, and TV shows on the subject. It’s an orgy of posthumous cashing in.
