Bryan Cranston is pretty much on top of the TV heap right now, having won two Emmys in a row for his role on Breaking Bad and earning some of the credit for turning AMC into, well, an actual network. And now he's taking some of that skill to another planet entirely. THR is reporting that Cranston is joining the cast of John Carter of Mars, playing a Civil War colonel who runs into the main character, played by Taylor Kitsch.

With a cast that includes Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong and Samantha Morton, plus the distinction of being the live-action directing debut from Pixar's Andrew Stanton, John Carter of Mars sounds like it has potential to be completely amazing. How will Caranston look as a Civil War soldier? How are they going to turn Willem Dafoe into an alien and Mark Strong into a shape-shifter? Who knows! But don't you trust that Andrew Stanton will figure it out somehow?
