Sandra Bullock is an actress I used to like, but now I really can’t remember why (Was it her throwaway role in Demolition Man?). Unlike Julia Roberts she’s been unable to make a solid transition to a later life career. I don’t think she’s gotten the message yet that she’s over forty and really ought to try and make something significant, instead of say… Miss Congeniality 2. Reese Witherspoon has that sort of suckiness covered quit adequately with her Legally Blonde series. Sandra is not young enough or cute enough to compete.
Perhaps I should give her more credit. She did have a small role in the really wonderful film Crash this year, and Two Weeks Notice wasn’t half bad. But it looks to me like she’s going to keep right on fading out of the Hollywood elite. Maybe she doesn’t care and is just trying to squeeze out a little more money before she retires to open a head shop in Austin with Mathew McConaughey. That’d be fine with me. For now though, it looks like one of her next films will be something called Premonition.
Production Weekly reports that she’s in negotiations to take on the film’s lead role, that of a woman who has a premonition that her husband will die in car wreck and then takes herself way to serious and sets out to prevent it. I have a premonition that it’ll be terribly boring, and come with some sort of annoying, end of film twist.
They’ll start shooting in Louisiana this coming January, so she’ll have to either sign or decline soon.
