Bunraku Trailer Gives Josh Hartnett A Horrible Mustache![]()
Bunraku is a wet dream for anyone who loves the hyper-stylized and the so far over the top that you can’t even see the top anymore. Rookie director Guy Moshe was given $25 million and a few top notch actors and seems to have delivered something that if nothing else will be big fun to watch. Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Ron Perlman star. Scope out the trailer below.
The film reminds me a lot of Takashi Miike’s Sukyaki Western Django, not in the setting but in that both films look sort of like what would happen if you took a few cameras on stage during an over produced Broadway show. The sets all look like stage sets, the lighting all looks like stage lighting and the actors all seem like they’re all playing to the back row. It’s a great look as long as the audience knows what they’re getting into when the buy their tickets. A style like that would be a rude awakening if you’re not expecting it. It’s also really nice to see Ron Perlman getting some more film work lately with this as well as his role as Corin in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot. He’s always been a favorite of mine and in Bunraku he looks every bit as badass as you’d expect a hulking, ape-like man to look. Plus, his immediate opposite in Bunraku is Demi Moore, whose slack he can easily pick up. Look for Bunraku on September 1st on demand, and in select theaters September 30th. |
