Will Ferrell has decided to circumvent the audition process for his next movie, and simply let people bid on parts instead. It’s not like it maters, as long he’s in it, the thing will be funny. If Will can be funny in Blades of Glory, I’m almost certain he can be funny in anything.
Of course, the role being sold off is just a cameo. WENN reports that he’s auctioning off a walk on in his new movie Step Brothers in an effort to raise money for a cancer charity run by one of his college frat buddies, Craig Pollard. Pollard runs Cancer for College foundation, and presumably they aren’t actually trying to buy cancer for colleges but rather trying to cure it. At least we hope that’s what they’re about. Their official line says they provide college scholarships to cancer patients.
The cool thing here is that if you’re a Ferrell fan, you can buy your way into his presence. The auction starts online this Monday, September 17th with a minimum opening bid of $5,000. It ends September 26th with the winner being announced the next day on the 27th. If you’re the high bidder, you have waay too much money to waste and you’ll also get to meet Will for dinner at the 14th annual Cancer for College gold tournament dinner in California on September 28th. Hopefully, the prize also includes airfare. If you’re paying that much money and you live in Idaho, the least Will could do is buy you a coach seat on Jet Blue.
Then, when filming starts on Step Brothers in October, you’ll get some sort of part in it. In the film, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly play two men who unexpectedly find out their parents have married. Much to the chagrin and surprise of everyone, the new family members immediately hit it off and continue to bask in their immaturity. I have no idea how you make a movie out of that, but they’re doing it and if you’re rich enough you can be a part of it. For more information, check out the charity’s website.
