Call Of Duty Movie Moving Forward? image
Call of Duty may become a movie. Or at least its parent company Activision would really like to turn it into one. In its current form Call of Duty is a game, a first person shooter set in World War II. You’re probably wondering why anyone would bother to make a movie out of a World War II simulator when they could just skip the middle man and make a movie about World War II and my answer would be: I have no idea.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense but Trademork says Activision has filed to protect the Call of Duty trademark in relation to “pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation.” That actually covers a pretty broad range of things, technically they could be making Call of Duty: The Broadway Musical, except this isn’t the first we’ve heard of movie possibilities for the popular game franchise.

Back in May the Trades reported that Activision was pushing to get Call of Duty: The Movie done. If that’s really what they’re after protecting their trademark would be the logical next step. Again though, it just doesn’t make any sense. I’m sure Call of Duty fans can come up with a million reasons why this deserves to be a film, but aside from brand recognition (which pales compared to um… World War II recognition) to me it seems like it’d be a lot easier (and more profitable) for a Hollywood studio to come up with their own movie about World War II.
