At last, we may have some evidence that Avatar James Cameron's first real movie since Titanic is happening. The big rumor circulating this morning is that Cameron may have cast his first actor for the film, and according to HollywoodNorthReport it's Dodgeball, Grandma's Boy and Art School Confidential's Joel Moore.

Avatar is a big budget sci-fi epic set in the future and focused on a disabled war vet named Jake taken to the planet Pandora. Don't open the box Jake! Don't open the box!

Right now the rumor is that Joel Moore is playing Jake in the movie. I like Moore a lot, he but he doesn't seem like leading man material, having spent most of his career playing weirdo nerds and scruffy losers in a variety of mediocre comedies. But he'd definitely be an interesting choice and he's working for Cameron, who almost always knows what he's doing.

Update! You may have noticed that the above link to Hollywood North Report's story is dead. There's a reason for that. Joel Moore's people have been scouring the internet asking sites like ours to remove the story. Apparently Joel doesn't actually have the part yet, and they fear that the early reporting of it might hurt his chances. We're not removing it, because it's a legitimate story and there's no good reason for us to do so. Whatever happened to journalistic integrity? In fact, it's now even more legitimate since his people's concern only confirms that Moore is almost certainly in consideration.

Best of luck to you Joel, and Cameron would be a fool not to give you the part just because a few internet sites got excited about it. To the contrary, if anyone actually reads what's being written about you, they'll see that the response to your involvement has been mostly positive. I know I'm all for it! Avatar with Joel Moore in the lead is a movie I want to see.
